Gravel Ground La Palma, a four-day gravel event
exploring the beautiful island of La Palma.

From October 23 to 27, Santa Cruz, the capital of La Palma in the Canary Islands, will host the start and finish of the first edition of Gravel Ground, GRAVEL GROUND LA PALMA, as well as the island’s first gravel cycling event. The event will take place over four stages. Cyclists will start and finish in Santa Cruz and will travel around the entire island in four days. Thanks to the incredible variety of terrain and vegetation, each stage will present a unique challenge. Cyclists will cross lush banana plantations, follow trails along the rocky coast, traverse laurel and Canarian pine forests, and pass by the lava fields of various eruptions, including the most recent eruption of Cumbre Vieja in 2021.

The route will be held almost exclusively on the island’s gravel forest tracks and will end each day in a different location. The Gravel Ground organization will move the camp each day to a new spot on the island, offering cyclists a complete sample of everything La Palma has to offer.

Participants will enjoy a unique gastronomic experience using only local food suppliers at each of their stops. After departing from Santa Cruz on the first day, cyclists will travel along the eastern, greener side of the island and climb the highest peak, El Roque de Los Muchachos. They will then cross the pine forests and vineyards of the western side, continue through the volcanic area of Cumbre Vieja, and traverse the lunar volcanic fields of the southern part of the island. They will finally end the experience back in Santa Cruz, followed by a celebration with local food, beer, and wine.

Gravel Ground La Palma is the brand’s first event with plans to expand into a global circuit. Gradant and Never Say Never, the company co-founded by Andrés Iniesta, have reached an agreement with the government of La Palma to hold this non-competitive event, which aims to celebrate and explore the intense variety of terrain, vegetation, and lush natural beauty of La Palma.

La Palma is the fifth largest and northernmost island of the Canary Islands, with the second highest peak (2,426 meters) in the entire archipelago, which cyclists will climb during this adventure. The island has a unique and diverse local fauna, completely different in each part, which will be discovered during the route.
